After hiking the Pass Mountain Trail at Usery Mountain Regional Park on New Years Day, Paul and I decided to come back and hike the popular Wind Cave Trail.  The 1.6 mile trail starts out gradual and gets steeper the last 1/2 mile as you reach the Wind Cave.  It was Martin Luther King Day so it was somewhat crowded.  The cave is approx. 10 - 12' high and offers some welcome shade on hot days.  The cliffs adjacent to the cave are covered with lichen.  We decided to ascend the additional 1/2 mile to the summit which was not nearly as well maintained, steep, rocky and narrow.  There is a sign that says hike at your own risk!  The panoramic views at the top are worth the climb although it is dangerous especially if you are afraid of heights.  The Superstition mountains are seen to the East and Four Peaks dominate the view to the Northeast.  Fountain Hills can be seen to the North and even the fountain if you are there at the top of the hour.
